What is Book Week?

Each year since 1945 the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) has brought children and books together across Australia through CBCA Book Week.

During this time schools and public libraries spend one glorious week celebrating books and Australian children's authors and illustrators.

This year Book Week will be held from 17 - 23 August 2024.

Design a Bookmark Competition

To celebrate Book Week we are giving children and young people (ages 4 to 18) the chance to have their designs on our bookmarks! The winners of each age category will also receive a book prize pack.

To enter, pick up an entry form from your local library, sketch your design and return your entry to the library for your chance to win.

The competition opens on Thursday 1 August and closes on Sunday 15 September 2024.

Book of the Year Awards

Explore the CBCA 2024 Book of the Year Awards shortlisted titles on display at your local library, or browse the entire collection on the Library Catalogue here.

Macquarie Regional Library members can also access many of the shortlisted titles online via StoryBox Hub or the library's eBook and eAudiobook platforms.

Book a Class Visit

Macquarie Regional Library is holding free sessions for schools during Book Week. These sessions are designed to be fun, interactive and educational, and can be tailored to suit the needs of your class.

During your class visit, students will have the opportunity to delight in the 2024 Children’s Book Council of Australia shortlisted books, share their love of books and Australian authors and illustrators, and take part in a range of exciting activities and competitions relating to the theme Reading is Magic. This is a great way to expose your students to Australian children’s literature and encourage a love of reading.

We hope you can join us! For more information or to arrange a time for your class to visit, please contact your local library.
