Borrowing and Registration

How do I join?
Library cards are free to all residents and rate payers of the Macquarie Regional Library area comprising Dubbo City Council, Narromine Shire Council, Warrumgbungle Shire Council and Wellington Council. You will need identification showing your name and current home address. Identification may include your driver's licence, pension card, rates notice or student card. Please ask the library for other suitable forms of identification. If you are under 18 years of age you will need the signature and identification from a parent or guardian. You will receive your library card immediately when you join the library. You require your library card each time you want to borrow and you can use it at any branch of Macquarie Regional Library [link to branch page]. Please notify the library if you change your name, address or telephone number or your library card is lost or stolen. The cost of replacing a lost library card is $4.40.

What can I borrow?
You may borrow up to 20 items at any time, with a limit of 3 DVDs and 3 CDs within these 20 items.

How long can I borrow things for?
The loan period for most items is 3 weeks, with magazines and DVDs having a one week loan period. A receipt that indicates the items you have borrowed and the date the items are due back at the library is issued to you when you borrow items.

What happens if I don't return items before the due date?
Overdue fees are charged on all items accumulating at a rate of $1.00 per item per week for adult items and $0.50 per item per week for junior items to a maximum charge of $10.00 per item. If you accumulate a total overdue fee of $10.00, your borrowing privileges will be suspended until the fee is paid.

What happens if I lose or damage something?
You will be charged the cost of the item plus a $5.50 processing fee.

What other resources are available?

Internet
Internet access for research is available free of charge.
Internet access for email is charged at $5.50 an hour or $1.35 per 15 minutes.

Interlibrary loans
If we do not hold the book you are looking for within our collection, we may be able to borrow it from another NSW library. Interlibrary loans cost $5.50 per item (base rate) with additional charges if borrowed from a university.

Using the catalogue

How do I search for something?
To do a quick search, simply enter a word or a number of words you would like to find, select the area you would like to search in, then click the OK button. Records will be found if all the words you entered are in the area you selected for your search. If your search is successful a page of records will be displayed showing brief details. Click on a title link to display full details including location and status details.

You can also perform the following searches:

Title Search allows you to search for words in the title or series title and also allows you to browse through titles beginning with certain words.

Author Search allows you to search for words in an author's name.

Subject Search allows you to search for words in a subject heading and also allows you to browse through subjects beginning with some text.

Advanced Search allows you to perform more complicated searches.

Can I save my search results?
You can save your search results by selecting the records you’d like to keep from your search, then click the ‘Save records’ button. To retrieve your saved results, click the My SavedList button on the left-hand side of the screen. You can then email or download the results.

How do I place a reservation on a title?
You will need to have registered a PIN in order to login and place reservations online. Once you have found the title you are searching for, select the record and click on the Place Reservation button. Enter your details and click Place reservation.

Can I see what books I currently have on loan?
You will need to have registered a PIN in order to login and check what titles you currently have on loan. Enter your ID (your borrower card number) and PIN and select Login. Click on the Current Loans button.

Can I renew any of my loans online?
You will need to have registered a PIN in order to login and renew your loans. Enter your ID (your borrower card number) and PIN and select Login. Click on the Current Loans button, and then select the titles you wish to renew. Click the Renew Selections button, or, if you wish to renew all your loans, simply click the Renew All button. You will only be able to renew items if there are no reservations on the title. You cannot renew loans on CDs or DVDs.
